AS & A2 Level Success Stories

REAL results REAL success stories

Melinda Frankland

Melinda achieved three As in English Literature, English Language and Psychology. ‘I chose these subjects because Psychology has always been an interest and I wanted to eventually study English
Literature at University. I’m thrilled to have got these grades as it means I can go to Kings College in London. I loved the freedom and independence of coming to College – teachers are really supportive and trust you to do the work off your own back. I can’t wait to start University – I’d love to work in journalism or be a film or book critic.’

Tom Hue

Tom’s A Level results were better than he expected; ‘I took Business Studies, Economics and Maths at Booth Lane and got two As and a B – I never dreamt I’d get such good grades. I didn’t do very well in my GCSEs at school, so decided to come to College and chose difficult subjects to prove myself. The standards of teaching and resources available to learners at College are great. I also think College prepares you better for University – it teaches you more about self discipline than school. I’m going to University to study Economics and in the long term I’d love to be a teacher.’

Lauren Cugini

Lauren was celebrating after achieving a double A in Applied Art & Design and a B in Fine Art. She studied at the Daventry site. ‘I chose Daventry because it is close to where I live. The Art teachers at College have been brilliant – they were so supportive and I really benefitted from the small class sizes and one to one tuition. I didn’t expect to do so well but I’m so pleased as it means I can go on to University to study Fashion Marketing. In the future I’d love to set-up my own business selling artwork, but I’m keeping my options open at the moment.’

Kastarzyna Dybowska

Katarzyna studied A Levels in Media Studies, Communication Studies and English Language and AS Levels in Psychology and Sociology at Booth Lane. She achieved Grade As across the board. ‘I only moved to the UK from Poland three years ago, and had real difficulty understanding the English accent at first. My father had to act as a translator during my College interview. I can’t believe how far I’ve come – I’m off to University in Bangor to study English Language and Psychology. Eventually I’d like to teach English or become a Psychologist – I’m not sure yet.’

Samantha Cullinane

Samantha was ecstatic on results day when she found out she’d got an A in Sport & Physical Education. ‘I thought I might get an A as I’ve always excelled in sport – I’m particularly good at the javelin and compete at a national level – but it’s a relief to know for sure. I also got two Cs in Maths and Biology which I’m really pleased with. I’m going on to University in Loughborough and would love to become a professional
athlete. I think the best thing about coming to College in Daventry is the
atmosphere – it’s really friendly and relaxed and I’ve made some great friends.’
