Accounting, Business, & Law

REAL results, REAL success stories

Charlie Donhou

Charlie first came to College on the NVQ Level 2 in Accounting two years ago and did so well that he went on to achieve top marks in the Level 3. ‘I chose the AAT as opposed to the more formal A Level route because it’s much more practical and I find it easier to learn by relating theory to real-life situations.’

The course has taught Charlie about many aspects of Accounting, and he’s learned a range of skills. ‘We were taught about all elements of Accounting, from book-keeping to Profit and Loss and Balance Sheets.

I can honestly say I liked all topics we covered on the course. A lot of the coursework involved writing reports, but we sometimes had to give presentations using Powerpoint to the rest of the class which was a bit daunting, but I’ve really gained in confidence as a result.’

Charlie has a place at Leicester University where he will study for a degree in Accounting & Finance, and has high hopes for the future. ‘I definitely see myself working my way up in a large reputable organisation. I want to be a very rich man!’

Anthony Brown

Enrolling onto the National Diploma in Business has helped Anthony decide on his career path. With one year still to go, he’s now got his hopes set on a place at one of the top 20 universities in the country. He has even got involved in a national youth volunteering programme to help him achieve his dream.

‘I am looking at getting into a top university to study Marketing when I’ve completed the course, so I guess you could say I am quite ambitious. In addition to the BTEC, I am also involved in a local volunteering project to make short films about crime among youths – it could be shown in schools. I’ve yet to decide which university to apply to but I am aiming for an overall distinction which means I have got to put the work in now – that’s the only way I’ll get the grades.’

Anthony has learnt about many aspects of business and law on the course.

‘Our tutor told us about additional law units which we could take and I decided that was too good an opportunity to miss as it’s another subject I am interested in. The marketing aspects are definitely what I enjoy the most though. Learning about the different techniques has helped me realise what I want to do after my studies.’

Olujimi Adeniji

Olujimi moved to the UK from Nigeria in 2004 and enrolled onto the BTEC National Certificate in Business. He found the first year of the course a challenge and considered moving onto a different programme. However, after careful thought and additional support from his tutor he decided to continue. He worked incredibly hard to improve on his grades and ended up achieving merits and distinctions in several of the final units. He is taking a year out before going onto university to complete a degree in Business Law.
