Now that I am at Northampton College I have been reflecting on a more challenging time in my life – the time I moved to a new school.
I chose to move as I had a goal and wanted to achieve it, but the first day was one of the worst of my life. I had no friends, a strong accent when I spoke English and I wasn't really sure what I was doing.
It felt like I was in a cave full of stones with no one to talk to and no one to comfort me. I don’t want anyone else to go through this so now, at Northampton College, I take time to approach people and strike up conversations. It helped me when people talked to me so I want to do the same.
I remember, when I was at this new school, applying to a different course because I had no experience in IT and media. In the class we were set a test – to analyse an advert.
I literally sat in front of the computer staring it for hours. I then stood up, spoke to the teacher and told him I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing.
That day, he told me I should move to a different course because this course wasn't for me, but I didn’t want to fail. I told him no, that I had come to learn and that I was going to stay. My goal was to study level 3 journalism so I stuck to it and refused to listen to the negative comments.
It worked. I stuck it out and am now proud to say I am on the Level 3 Journalism PR course at Northampton College.
What I have to say to whoever is reading this is never let anyone bring you down.
Show people how determined you can be and achieve your goals – whatever negativity or challenges are thrown your way. Show them how determined you are and they will help you.
