Summary of course

The extended Level 1 course combines two qualifications; the Level 1 Access Award in Bookkeeping and the Level 1 Access Award in Accounting Software. These are introductory level qualifications which cover manual bookkeeping and accounting, the basic skills required to use computerised accounting software (Sage) and the use of spreadsheets to present financial information.

Students will gain an understanding of: the role of the bookkeeper; the terminology used in bookkeeping; the fundamental principles of bookkeeping; how to prepare financial documents and record them through the accounting system; how to use spreadsheet software to provide financial information in a variety of formats; the fundamental principles required to use a computerised accounting system (Sage).

How is the course assessed?

The course is assessed by three computer based assessments, consisting of:

  1. Bookkeeping - 2 hours
  2. Accounting Software - 1 hour

Who is this course for?

The course is ideal for those who are new to accountancy and are considering a career in accountancy and finance. This short course is over two weeks (you will study five days per week) and provide you with a sound foundation in accounting and bookkeeping.

Entry Requirements for new students

No formal accounting or finance experience is necessary, however applicants should have English and maths qualifications at Level 1 or above. Students over the age of 19 may be accepted upon successful completion of an initial assessment.

This course has monthly starts available throughout the year, and runs for five days per week for two weeks. Class times are 10am - 4pm. Lesson materials are provided.
