Summary of course

This programme is developed for managers or advanced practitioners to extend and enrich understanding of the early years sector. You will develop and enhance the practical leadership and management knowledge and skills required to manage change, lead service improvement and to embed best practice models. Developing higher level thinking skills including reflection and critical analysis, this will also assist you to establish good practice and knowledge in relation to needs based assessment and planning.

The programme is broken down into a set of mandatory and optional units that all candidates will be required to cover. These will be selected by the employer, the staff member and the assessor to tailor the qualification to suit your job role.

Below are some of the mandatory units covered in the qualification:

  • Lead practice that support positive outcomes for child and young person development
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to support the safeguarding of children and young people
  • Develop health and safety and risk management policies, procedures and practices in health and social care or children and young people's settings
  • Use and develop systems that promote communication
  • Promote professional development
  • Lead and manage a team within a children and young people's setting

Optional units may include:

  • Develop and evaluate operational plans for own area of responsibility
  • Facilitate coaching and mentoring in health and social care or children and young people's settings
  • Facilitate change in health and social care or children and young people's settings
  • Manage quality in health and social care or children and young people's settings
  • Develop provision for family support

Progression:

  • Honours degree in Early Years
  • Early Years Professional Status

How is the course assessed?

Evidence is collected in a portfolio and will include workplace observations, professional discussions, witness testimonies, oral and written questions and other evidence as appropriate to the job. Candidates will have a dedicated assessor to guide and support them through the process.

Who is this course for?

This course is for you if you are employed as a manager or advanced practitioner in an Early Years setting for a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Entry Requirements for new students

Hold a relevant Level 3 qualification. GCSE at Grades A*-C in mathematics and English. Employed in a management capacity within an Early Years setting.
