Healthcare & Childcare

Make a REAL difference

Do you have patience, dedication and a caring attitude? Do you have the ability to work hard and support people? Are you particularly interested in child care and education, and caring for people? If you have the qualities of a carer, you may find a career in one of the caring professions particularly rewarding, and it all starts here, with courses available in Childcare, Health Studies and Care. Make a difference Healthcare & Childcare

Becoming a carer, whether for children or adults, calls for someone with the ability to show real initiative in the workplace and treat people equally, irrespective of their health, age, gender, race or disability. Here at the College, we have an excellent track record of student achievement in this field and our experienced staff continually work to the very highest standards. We are always looking to develop new courses, and offer flexible modes of study not only for new entrants to the profession but also for existing professionals looking to improve their qualifications.

The Childcare Department offers a range of full-time courses, and the sector now encompasses the care and education of children between the ages of 0-16, (previously 0-8). Positions include nursery nurse, teaching assistant or play worker in an after school club or holiday play scheme.

Childcare courses start at Level 2, with many progression routes available after the Level 4 qualification, including a job in a day nursery or school, entering university to become a nursery teacher, going abroad as a Children’s Rep, or specialising in helping sick children on a children’s ward in a hospital.

We also offer full-time courses for those who wishing to work with disabled adults, the elderly or in one of the health professions, such as a nurse, podiatrist, dietician or physiotherapist etc.

Learners spend at least one day a week in an adult care setting as an integral part of the course and assignments are closely linked to work experiences.

ALL LEARNERS MUST UNDERTAKE A CRIMINAL RECORDS BUREAU CHECK TO PROVE THEIR SUITABILITY TO WORK IN THE CARING PROFESSIONS. THIS WILL BE CARRIED OUT BY THE COLLEGE AT THE ONSET OF THE COURSE.
