One-Two years
Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at Grades A* - C including English, BB in Science or B in Biology or BTEC Level 2 in Science.
Course Content
In South East Asia, the skies are dark with smoke as the last Bornean rainforests are burned to grow palms; in Kenya 350 people die each day from AIDS. Biologists are concerned with these issues. They work in the fields of cell biology, medicine, food production and ecology, and the work they do is vital to us all.
Covering a wide range of subjects, from molecular biology to ecosystems, from micro-organisms to mammoths, Biology is one of the most popular A Level subjects in the country. Many students enjoy the subject so much they progress to a biologically related degree course, such as Veterinary Science, Medicine, Pharmacy, Environmental Science, Horticulture or Forestry, or take up careers in law, computing, accounting or teaching. In the first year, you’ll study Biology and Disease, The Variety of Living Organisms and Investigative and Practical Skills, and in the second year units include Population and The Environment, Control in Cells and in Organisms and Investigative and Practical Skills. You should be curious about how life works and have sound opinions on biological/environmental issues.
