Communication & Culture - AS/A2 Levels

One-Two years

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at Grades A* - C including English Language.

Course Content

This course covers all areas of communication and cultural studies and will help you in any future career, particularly in journalism, radio, business, marketing/PR, television, advertising and art & design. You’ll also find it useful if you want to work with people, in such areas as counselling, social work, management or teaching. It starts with the ways in which we learn how to communicate and considers such aspects as socialisation, gender, culture, body language, how meaning is created, the power of symbols, and group communications. It combines theory and practical work, with the opportunity to work on case studies and projects, demonstrating and exploring how communication works in the real world.

In year one, you’ll study ‘Understanding Communication and Culture’; and ‘The Individual and Contemporary Culture’, and in Year 2, ‘Communicating Culture’ and ‘Communication and Culture in Practice’. You’ll need to have a wide general knowledge, enjoy all forms of media, from serious programmes to soap operas, be self-motivated, with an eye for detail and able to meet deadlines.
