One-Two years

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at Grades A* - C including English Language or Media.

Course Content

If you would like to work in the media and are interested in current affairs and the world around you, this course is for you. Combining practical and theoretical study, it enables you to explore different forms of the media, and understand how they operate. In the first year of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to produce a print product and in the second year your practical work will focus on radio. You’ll also learn about the history of the various media, the commercial and industrial structure of production and circulation, and the limitations placed on them by governments and society. First year modules include ‘Foundation Portfolio’ which will see you creating a new music magazine using a Mac computer, and either ‘TV Drama’ or ‘Radio Drama’ plus ‘Institutions and Audiences’. Second year modules include an ‘Advanced Portfolio’ practical project and ‘Critical Perspectives in the Media’. You should have an enquiring mind, regularly read and watch news programmes, and be able to work independently and in groups.
