Course Content
Are you interested in human behaviour and what makes humans behave as they do? Do you want to work with people? If so, you may enjoy Psychology A Level. On this course, you’ll develop an awareness of how psychologists understand human behaviour from a variety of different psychological perspectives, and study factors such as the effect of the brain or the influence of other people upon behaviour.
In Year 1, you’ll cover such subjects as memory - the most complex entity in the human brain; psychological studies of parent/child bonds; causes of mental health problems; the causes and effects of stress; and the impact of social factors upon behaviour. In Year 2, you’ll look at three topics chosen from the following areas of psychological research; biological rhythms i.e. sleep, eating behaviours, and aggression. In addition, you will examine explanations of psychological disorders such as depression. You’ll also investigate one of the following contemporary applications; media psychology, the psychology of addictive behaviour or anomalistic psychology. In addition, you will extend your understanding of research methodology.
