Kieran joined the Accessing College & Education course in September 2011. Attending college was a challenge for him as he has difficulty with change and with meeting new people. He also struggled at times with his verbal communication. Kieran settled in remarkably quickly making some good friendships along the way, which was a new experience for him. At the start of the year Kieran did not often complete his work in the time given as he was focussing on ‘getting it perfect’ rather than ‘getting it right’. As the year progressed, Kieran achieved more and more as he was able to focus on the aim of the task rather than the accuracy. He gained the confidence to try new activities and to take part in work experience throughout the College without support. Kieran made such good progress in this year he was nominated for and received a student achievement award. He is keen to improve his GCSEs in English and Maths and has joined a basic skills class on top of his usual studies to try to achieve this goal.
