Level 1 Art and Design
Four GCSEs at Grade E or above and an interest in Art and Design.
If you are coming for an interview for any of the courses in Art, Design, Photography and Fashion, you will need to bring with you a portfolio of work that demonstrates your creativity, enthusiasm and shows the skills you have already developed. This portfolio could include GCSE coursework and work you do in your own time. During your interview we will look through your portfolio so we can help you join the course that is right for you.
This is a lively and fun course designed to help you develop skills in the fields of Art and Design as well as improving your literacy and numeracy. You’ll do project work in photography, ceramics, textiles, drawing and graphic design, and will gain a realistic idea about career possibilities in art, design and the media. Dedicated tutorial support will encourage you to develop relevant life and work skills, and build your confidence in your abilities and talents. At the end of the course, you’ll produce a final major project and will mount an exhibition of your work. You will also study for qualifications in Functional Skills and Personal and Social Development.
If you pass the Level 1 programme including the Functional Skills and Personal and Social Development elements (at least 37 credits), you can progress to an appropriate BTEC Level 2 in Art and Design.
