Wendy had been a full-time mother before deciding she wanted to learn new skills and become a childminder. “I wanted a career that would fit in with my young family and knew I would need to retrain – child-minding seemed like a perfect option. When I started looking at the different courses though I began to get really excited about what I could learn and started to think about becoming a teacher instead. I came along to the College’s Open Event and spoke to the childcare teachers. They told me all about the various courses. I eventually decided on the CACHE Level 3 Diploma as the course was very varied. As soon as I started studying I began to open my eyes and realise there was so much more to caring for children than I’d first thought. I never realised I’d be learning about a child’s nutritional needs, their different developmental stages and ways in which I could help them reach their full potential. I had so much fun and learnt so very much on the course.” “As I progressed on the programme I started to think about working with children with special needs as I felt like I could really make a difference and would find the career so rewarding. I will be progressing on to university and looking for work in a nursery so that I can build up my work experience at the same time. I am really looking forward to achieving my dreams in the future.”
