Level 2 Professional Chef Diploma (comprises VRQ Levels 1 and 2)

Entry Requirements

You will need either four GCSEs at Grade D or above or equivalent.

Course Content

This course is designed for more confident students capable of meeting its challenges. It covers the basic skills required in practical cookery, pastry, larder work and restaurant service. This is delivered through practical and theory sessions.

In the first year, you should complete the following qualifications;

• VRQ Level 1 Diploma in Professional Cookery

• VRQ Level 1 Certificate in Food and Drink Service

• Level 2 Award in Food Safety

• Functional Skills in English and Maths, dependant on entry results.

In the second year, you should continue to develop your skills from the first. In addition to your VRQ2 qualification will also be given the choice to further develop an additional skill.

In Option 1, you will get the opportunity to develop additional Pastry skills and will complete:

• VRQ Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery

• ABC Level 2 Certificate for Pastry Chefs

• Functional Skills in English and Maths or GCSE Maths or English dependent on entry results.

In Option 2, you will get the opportunity to develop additional Food Service Skills and will complete:

• VRQ Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery

• City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Food and Beverage Service

• Functional Skills in English and Maths or GCSE Maths or English dependent on entry results

To automatically progress to the second year of this VRQ programme, you will to need to successfully complete all the qualifications in the first year of the programme (including at least a Merit in the Diploma for Professional Cookery).

Next Step

To automatically progress to the VRQ Level 3 programme, you will to need to successfully complete all the qualifications in this programme (including a Merit in the Diploma for Professional Cookery). Alternatively you may wish to continue your training in the workplace through the Apprenticeship programme, or seek employment in the catering industry.
