BTEC Level 3 in Dance
One or two years
Entry Requirements
You will need either:
Four GCSEs at Grade C or above including English, or
A BTEC Level 2 in Performing Arts with an overall Merit combined with a GCSE in English at Grade C or above.
Due to the high level of demand for places on this course, you will also be required to undertake a practical workshop to assess your suitability for the course.
Course Content
On this course, there is a combination of practical and theory-based assignments, as well as portfolio and externally-assessed units.
Core units include:
• Performance workshop
• Performing arts business
• Historical context of the arts
• Rehearsing
• Performing
• Award in the Arts
Year 1 units:
• The healthy performer
• Developing classical ballet
• Developing contemporary dance
• Urban dance
• Dance appreciation
• Musical theatre
• Award in the Arts at bronze level.
There will also be the opportunity to re-take GCSE Maths if you have not achieved it to a C grade.
Year 2 units:
• Dance performance
• Choreographing dances
• Applying contemporary dance
• Jazz dance
• Tap dance
• Exploring contact improvisation
• Award in the Arts at silver level.
You will also get the opportunity to perform for friends, family and members of the public on a number of occasions and to go on a variety of trips to theatres and shows.
Next Step
You could progress to an HND, a degree, employment or specialist performing arts college.
