English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Entry Requirements
Before commencing the programme, you will be required to attend an in-depth initial assessment during which you will be advised on the appropriate level of study. This could be Pre Entry, Entry 1, 2 or 3, or Level 1 or 2. You will need to start with the level recommended to you as part of the initial assessment.
Course Content
Once you’ve joined the programme, you will benefit from a full tutorial programme to support you in your studies. Your Personal Tutor will advise you as you gain in competence about progression on to other college programmes, or into work, possibly following an Apprenticeship programme. You may be advised to progress through the levels on the ESOL programme or branch out into different areas to help you gain more appropriate qualifications that will help you enter employment. The programme will also help you improve your employability through gaining skills including numeracy and using IT.
Students will have the opportunity to take City & Guilds exams during the year at various levels. Full-time ESOL courses are available at Booth Lane and Lower Mounts and are suitable for adults or young people aged under 19.
