Healthcare & Childcare
If you have the qualities of a carer, you may find a career in one of the caring professions particularly rewarding. It all starts here, with courses available in Childcare, Health Studies and Care.
Becoming a carer, whether for children or adults, calls for someone with the ability to show real initiative in the workplace and treat people equally, irrespective of their health, age, gender, race or disability. Here at the College, we have an excellent track record of student achievement in this field and our experienced staff work to the very highest standards. We are always looking to develop new courses, and offer flexible modes of study not only for new entrants to the profession but also for existing professionals looking to improve their qualifications.
The Department offers a range of full-time courses, and the sector now encompasses the care and education of children between the ages of 0 - 16. Positions include nursery nurse, teaching assistant or play worker in an after-school club or holiday play scheme.
Both Healthcare and Childcare courses start at Level 1, with many progression routes available after the Level 3 qualification.
We also offer full-time courses for those who wishing to work with the elderly or in one of the health professions, such as a nurse, podiatrist, dietician or physiotherapist.
Students on a course at Level 2 or above spend at least one day a week in a care setting as an integral part of the course and assignments are closely linked to work experiences.
All students must undertake a Criminal Records Bureau check to prove their suitability to work in the caring professions. This will be carried out by the College at the outset of the course.
Our specialist resources include:
• Health rooms
• Computer suites
• Access to the College’s Libraries
• Additional Learning Support where applicable
• Craft rooms
