Summary of course

The course is designed to provide a broad overview of the key roles and responsibilities undertaken by HR and how these roles and responsibilities interact with other key stakeholders and areas of the business.

If you are doing the Certificate you will study the following core units:

  • Developing yourself as an effective HR practitioner (4DEP)
  • Understanding organisations and the role of HR (3HRC)
  • Recording, analysing and using HR information (3RAI)

    as well as:

  • Supporting good practice in managing employment relations (3MER)
  • Resourcing talent (3RTO)
  • Performance and reward management (3PRM)

    If you are doing the Diploma option you will study a further two units:

  • Supporting change within organisations (3SCO)
  • Delivering learning activities (3DEL)

After achieving this qualificationTo CIPD Intermediate (L5) Certificate or Diploma in HR Management.

How is the course assessed?

One assignment per unit, most having a written and a practical element.

Who is this course for?

Awarded by Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) these courses will benefit staff working in administrative roles within an established HR department who are looking to advance their careers. It will also benefit more experienced HR professionals who provide support to line managers on a range of policy, procedural and legal issues. In addition, these courses will be useful for line managers wanting to learn more about managing people effectively in the workplace and those employed in more specialised roles like recruitment and selection and training and development, who want to broaden their knowledge and skill base.

Entry Requirements for new students

There are no formal educational entry requirements, however as there is a written assessment for each unit you need to be confident that you can cope with writing a report of around 2500 words. Don't worry if you have not studied for some time, there will be plenty of support to help you from the course team. We are expecting you will already be working in HR but if not then you will need to show you have some experience of working in a role where you are dealing with people.

You must be a student member of CIPD during your studies and you will have to pay the registration subscription fee of £143 to CIPD at the start of your course. It is not included in the fee charged by the college.

Prospective students need to speak to the course tutor before enrolment. You may be asked to submit a short written piece of work to demonstrate your skills in written English before being offered a place.
