On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the CIPD Intermediate Certificate/Diploma in HR Management and will be entitled to use the initials Assoc.CIPD after your name.
Summary of course
Set at undergraduate level, our Intermediate Level qualifications will help to develop your ability to evaluate the effectiveness of different Human Resources (HR) practices and increase the understanding of the external factors that impact upon HR activities and organisations, whilst also developing planning, analytical and problem solving skills. They also offer you the opportunity to build on your expertise in a range of HR subjects.
Units covered include four mandatory units:
- Developing Professional Practice (5DVP)
- Business issues and the context of Human Resources (5CHR)
- Using information in Human Resources (5UIN)
Managing and coordinating the Human Resources function (5HRF)
Specialist units (two for Certificate or four for Diploma):
- Employment Law (5EML)
Resource and Talent Planning (RST)
- Contemporary development in Employment Relations (5DER)
- Employee Engagement (ENG)
How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed through summative assessments for each of the units studied (set by CIPD) that take the form of written reports/presentations/Briefing notes. There are no examinations.
Who is this course for?
The course is aimed at existing HR professionals who are either HR Managers or have several years experience and are looking to move into an HR management role. It may also be suitable for you if you are an experienced manager in another administrative discipline who is looking to broaden their understanding of people related issues.
Entry Requirements for new students
You should ideally be working in an HR environment or have relevant managerial experience in another administrative discipline. You may have already achieved the CIPD Foundation Certificate or Diploma in HR Practice (or CPP if it was some time ago). It is not essential to have either of those qualifications but you must be able to show evidence that you have studied successfully at Level 3 (A level or equivalent). This is a Level 5 qualification that will blend independent research and academic study with analysis as well. You will have to be able to bring all that together in written reports to demonstrate the application of the theory to the practice of HRM. Don't worry if you have not studied recently as there is support available to help you.
Prospective students need to speak to the course tutor before enrolment. You may be asked to submit a short written piece of work to demonstrate your skills in written English before being offered a place.

There are several text books you may find it helpful to buy but wait until the course starts so that you can obtain discount on purchase through CIPD. Also please note that the fee paid to the college for this course does NOT include your membership as a student with CIPD and the relevant subscription - this has to be paid directly to CIPD and will vary depending on your current status. This can be confusing so we suggest you leave this until classes start. If you are already a member of CIPD you should already have renewed your subscription as of 1st July.
