Summary of course

This is a general science course with a mixture of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

The course is taught as a mixture of lectures and practical

After completion of the course you can go onto:

  • A-level Sciences (provided you achieve a grade A and also achieve a grade A in another science subject)
  • BTEC National Diploma in Applied Science (if you achieve a grade C or above)

This course is offered instead of GCSE Science, which is no longer available as a single subject (one lesson per week).

The units you will study are likely to include:

  • Life Processes and Living Things (Biology)
  • Materials and their Properties (Chemistry)
  • Physical Processes (Physics)

Progression:

With an A grade you can go on to A level Science subjects (if you have a second science GCSE at C or above (or equivalent). With a C grade you can use this GCSE as the science requirement for teacher training and other HE courses.

How is the course assessed?

Coursework (ISA) must be available to carry over from previous sitting. There are three exams, one in each of biology, chemistry, physics and they are approximately one hour long.

Who is this course for?

This course is for people who sat GCSE Science in Summer 2017 and wish to re-sit. This is the last available opportunity for this letter-graded specification. From June 2018 all GCSE science subjects will be graded using numbers 1-9.

Entry Requirements for new students

A grade E, or preferably a D, from a recent exam series with AQA, and an ISA coursework mark that can be carried forward as there will be no opportunity to re-take the ISA, only the written exams.
