Summary of course

This is an opportunity to combine studying a full-time Level 3 sports qualification with football training. The training is provided by Crystal Palace Football Academy, who have successfully trained young people to become professional footballers.

What will I study?

The full-time sports qualification will be a BTEC course over two years, the equivalent of studying three A Levels. The content of this will be the same as our other Level 3 Sports course. It will be delivered over four days.

The football training will consist of eight hours training spread over the four course days and a fifth day devoted to playing matches in the National Football Academy league. These will be both home and away in places such as Sunderland and Tottenham.

As part of any full-time course, all students also have to take part in other activities such as work experience and enrichment.

The units you will study are likely to include:

Core Units:

  • Principles of Anatomy
  • Physiology of Fitness
  • Training and Fitness for Sport
  • Psychology for Sports Performance
  • Coaching
  • Assessing Risks in Sport
  • Practical Team Sports
  • Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
  • Exercise and Healthy Lifestyle

All units are subject to change and may be withdrawn.

For further information about the course and the units you will study, please read the awarding body specification by clicking on the link below:

How is the course assessed?

Assessment is currently by assignments, projects, and practical sessions but this is subject to change in the near future, when a small number of exams will also form part of the assessment structure.

Your Study Programme

If you are aged 16-18, you will join a Study Programme. We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can. All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you don't have a grade 4 (C) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal (subject to specific entry requirements for particular courses). Work experience will be part of your study programme and complement your college study and prepare you for employment. You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career. Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for you if you have an interest in sport, particularly football, and wish to gain a Level 3 qualification in sport.
