The libraries and the service they provide are integral to the College’s teaching and learning experience. They provide fantastic facilities at all three of our locations as well as resources in a range of formats so learning materials can be accessed 24/7.
The library was awarded the prestigious Association of Colleges (AoC) Beacon Award for embedding information and study skills in 2012. The award, sponsored by CoLRiC, was presented to the College by the Minister for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning at the AoC Annual awards ceremony.
The library has become a national centre of excellence having hosted 50 colleges, schools and universities from around the UK over the last four years who have visited to see best practice in action.
Northampton College’s library leads the further education sector in supporting literacy with four consecutive Gold Awards from The Reading Agency for its high levels of participation in the national competition, Reading Ahead (previously Six Book Challenge). Library staff were invited by the AoC to visit Westminster and Downing Street to receive the award in each successive year.
The library hosts its own annual awards ceremony and provides extensive support for talented students through special competitions including poetry and short-story writing as well as photography.
In a survey of students, 93% said that they were highly satisfied with the level of service, resources and support that the library provides.
