The cream of Northampton College catering students came to the top at an annual awards ceremony honouring Booth Lane’s best bakers.
A glittering gala dinner, prepared and served by the students themselves, saw 12 aspiring chefs handed trophies for their hard work over the past academic year.
Among the winners was Aimee Bush, who was named Best First Year Catering Student in a category sponsored by Silverstone– which has teamed up with the college to offer students the chance to experience life in the fast-paced world of the Grand Prix circuit’s kitchens.
Aimee, aged 17, said: “I’m so happy to win the award, it’s amazing. I’ve loved my first year and I have learned so much. I’ve enjoyed making crème brulee, sponge puddings and cannelloni. I’m already looking forward to coming back next year.”
Guests at the awards were treated to a four-course dinner featuring dishes such as cauliflower and parmesan veloute, gin and lemon cured sea trout and roast rump of lamb.
Phil Martin, head of catering at Northampton College, said: “We are very proud of the work our students do and this awards ceremony is the chance for us to reward them for their hard work and dedication over the year.
“We are fortunate to have exceptional links with local restaurants and suppliers and we are very hopeful our young learners can progress to become the stars of the future on both the local and national food scene.”
