dsc 0035Students at Northampton College will benefit from a generous donation of hundreds of books and publications aimed at inspiring artists and architects of the future.

The resources will be added to the shelves of the library at the college’s Booth Lane campus having been donated by the family of Dr Donald Sykes – a former Principal of Mansfield College at Oxford University.

His wife, Sarah, said: “The books were part of our personal library. My husband is a polymath and loves every subject. He taught theology, classics, Latin and Greek at Oxford but he loved art and architecture.

“It is a fantastic collection and I’m glad the books are going to a good home. We hope they will be very useful to the students.”

The books will add to the extensive collection of resources available to students in the library.

Library manager Grazyna Kuczera said: “We are extremely grateful to Dr Sykes and his family for this inspiring, generous donation. The books will enrich significantly our collection and will be very useful to our students for many years to come.”

The books cover a wide range of subjects within art and architecture, serving as valuable tools for both research and inspiration.

Level 3 Art & Design student Saryna Glazebrook said: “I think it’s absolutely brilliant someone has the heart to donate all these books to us. They will help not only in our studies but also for inspiration for our own work.”
