College helps Town Centre regeneration with new building

Construction at the College's iconic Town Centre site has begun.

Construction at the College's iconic Town Centre site has begun.

College Principal, Len Closs set the capital building project at Lower Mounts in motion 36 years after the College first opened its doors at the Booth Lane site. The start of work will greatly improve college facilities for learning and will contribute to the regeneration of Northampton Town Centre.

Len Closs said, 'The plans for the Lower Mounts building are particularly exciting as it is located on such a prominent spot in the centre of Northampton. We will be providing a substantial new building in addition to our current facilities – it will be a striking sight and we believe it will mark a key milestone in regeneration across the town. We will be building Hair & Beauty salons open to the general public, a prestigious restaurant outlet and facilities to deliver a rolling programme of IT, Skills for Life, Supported Learning, Access and Higher Education, enabling us to enhance and extend our already popular programmes of study. Students learning here will benefit greatly from the improved facilities.'

Local dignitaries and representatives from SDC, the principal contractor managing construction were also present.

The site will be ready for occupation 2010/11.
