Case Studies

‘Over the moon with my results’

Katrina Coffey,18 studied A Levels Full-time at Booth Lane in English Literature, Sociology and Psychology.

Katrina said, ‘I’m really happy with my results, getting two As and a C has given me what I need to go on to university. I’m taking a year out but will be going to study English at Sussex University next year and so I’m very excited.’

‘It’s never too late to study’

Two Mapunga, 35 left school some time ago without A Levels and had been working for several years before deciding to come back to college.

Two said, ‘I really wanted to come back to college and get my qualifications and really push myself into doing something amazing. I took four A Levels in Maths, Accounting, Economics and Psychology and am delighted at achieving one A, two Bs and a C. I’m now planning on going to The University of Leicester to study a BSC in Mathematics and Actual Science. This experience has been absolutely life-changing for me and I’m really looking forward to the future.’

‘I came back to College and achieved my dream’

Mikey Jones, 21 went to university when he was 18 but didn’t like the course and so left and had been working before deciding to re-sit his English A Level.

Mikey said ‘ I knew that I still wanted to go to university and study something I loved but having that bad experience the first time around had really affected my confidence. Northampton College was really welcoming and it didn’t matter that I was a little bit older than a lot of the other students, in fact I have made some fantastic friends here. I have now been offered a place at De Montfort University in Leicester studying English and Film and I could not be happier.’

John Bexson, Deputy Principal, Curriculum & Student Services said, ‘With such a large number of A Level programmes at Northampton College, we support a substantial amount of students in the County through their studies. Once again our A Level students and those on our equivalent vocational and Apprenticeship courses deserve to be proud of their achievements.’

Students ranged from 16 to 65 years of age, showing that learning really is a lifelong journey.

It is still possible to enrol on some full-time courses starting in September. Those interested should attend the Advice and Guidance session at Booth Lane on Thursday 30 August, 1-4pm.
