Daventry residents’ views sought on college regeneration

Local people are being asked for their views as part of the re-launch of the College’s Daventry centre. From this month, the centre at Badby Road West will be dedicated to providing vocational skills for young people and adults through work-related training.

Local people are being asked for their views as part of the re-launch of the College’s Daventry centre. From this month, the centre at Badby Road West will be dedicated to providing vocational skills for young people and adults through work-related training.

A new Head of Centre, Ellen Buttler, has recently been appointed to the College and is eager to establish what the people of Daventry would like to see as part of the new offer. The College is keen to make sure it is offering the type of training and education that meets the needs of local people and is also eager to build its role within the community, by offering appropriate services, facilities and opportunities at its site near the Town Centre.

As part of the relaunch, the College is pleased to invite responses to its ‘Have Your Say’ survey which can be accessed online or via Reception at Badby Road West. A team from the College also plans to be out and about in Daventry over the next few weeks in an attempt to gather as much feedback from local people as possible.

All completed questionnaires will be entered into a prize draw and one lucky winner could win a Tesco voucher to the value of £50*.

In addition, the College will be opening its doors on Tuesday, 13 November to allow people to come along and have their say in person. Everyone is welcome to attend between 5pm and 7pm, to see the new facilities, take part in a range of activities and meet our staff. Refreshments will be provided.

Ellen said, “I am delighted to have joined the College’s team at Daventry and look forward to finding out how we can improve our offer to meet the needs of local people. We’ve got lots of ideas for new services and opportunities but want to make sure that they are going to have broad appeal in Daventry. If there’s anything people really want to see from College, now is the perfect time to let us know!”

During extensive work over the summer, the College has started to completely refurbish its facilities at Badby Road West. The improvements include a brand new home for The Salon NC, run along professional lines by students and college staff offering high quality hairdressing and beauty therapy treatments at competitive prices. Also as part of the refurbishment is a new home for The Skills Centre NC, offering English, Maths and IT skills on a drop-in basis.

From September 2012, full-time courses are designed to provide skills for young people so they can take up careers in a range of areas including Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy, Business, Art and Design, IT, Vehicle Mechanics, Childcare and Healthcare, and Public Services.

There will also be opportunities for adults to follow programmes that improve their career prospects, focusing on English, Maths and IT skills, as well as English for Speakers of Other Languages and Access to Higher Education.

To help us build a part-time offer that meets your needs, take part and ‘Have your Say’ on the College’s activities in Daventry.
