eli sodipe motor eng smallA chance to get up close and personal with the 1000mph Bloodhound supersonic car gave motor vehicle engineering student Eli the inspiration to work in a garage and pursue a career in the industry. The supercar paid a visit to Northampton College and Eli said: “I’ve always had a love of cars, when I was younger I would often take things apart but would never know how to put them back together. Coming to college has given me that knowledge. I have also been working in a garage outside college for two years and they have seen a real improvement in my work and my confidence has grown. The course has been really important for my future career as it has helped me to gain real life experience and practical knowledge.”
jodie bunting hair beauty smallHairdressing student Jodie Bunting proved she was a cut above the rest when made it through to the finals of the WorldSkills UK competition, performing against the clock under extreme pressure.

Having studied hard to pick up new techniques and a real eye for style, Jodie was able to take her skills to the next level and compete on the national stage. She said: "I love competing in national competitions as it gives you something extra to work towards on top of your training and be the best you can be. The skills I have learnt at Northampton College have given me the confidence to compete and the adrenaline rush you get is just amazing."

louisa ashman travel smallFormer Travel student Louisa is currently flying high after landing her dream job as part of the British Airways cabin crew.

She said: “I absolutely loved my time at Northampton College. The skills I gained from the course were incredibly important for the path I was about to go down. I gained confidence in myself, in problem solving and self-motivation by making sure I got my assignments in on time.  The Travel course is a great way of getting an insight into the industry.”

Josh said: “The learning environment at college is a lot more grown up with much more freedom which was all very positive for me. The course is great and really relevant to the media industry so you get lots of experience and knowledge which will definitely help me progress in my future career.”

matt case study newEngineering student Matthew Quincey is in pole position for an exciting career in the high octane world of F1 after landing an apprenticeship with world champions Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP).

Having studied a BTEC Level Three in Engineering at Northampton College, Matthew landed the role as part of a tie-in with the Brixworth-based power unit manufacturer. He will start his apprenticeship with HPP after completing his qualifications at the college, giving him the perfect platform to pursue a career in F1.

Matthew said: "Receiving the placement with Mercedes was such a confidence boost. Working as part of a team creating F1 engines is incredible, it's the dream really, and I have definitely found my true calling in engineering. My work ethic has changed so much since coming to Northampton College and I feel honoured that HPP think I am worthy of working for them."
