Learner Support

'Our Learner Support Centres are there to make sure no one feels overwhelmed or alone'

Barry Hansford, Head of Learner Support

Staying Safe

Support gives learners the confidence to succeed

Karen Walker's experience of the College's mentor scheme has been invaluable and helped her overcome her past experiences of bullying.

Karen said, 'Being bullied is a horrible experience. For me it started in Year 9 with the occasional teasing but developed into harsh rumours and verbal abuse which was much more frightening. By the time I reached sixth form the bullies had definitely knocked my confidence levels. My decision to come to college to study A Levels has changed all that.'

'I am much more suited to this way of learning. There is a brilliant support network available to students, like the learner mentors for example. They are great because you always have someone to talk to. College can be overwhelming and intimidating but I have always been made to feel safe and I know other learners feel the same. There is a great atmosphere about the place, everyone is friendly and welcoming.'
