Revision Tips

1. First of all prepare your work area make sure you have everything you need including snacks and drinks so you don’t have an excuse to stop sooner than you need to.

2. Think positively, decide what you want to achieve in the first ten minutes of revision and concentrate on this. After the first ten minutes of revision reward yourself with a ten minute break. Stick to this rule, gradually increasing the time you revise for and reduce the length of your break.

3. When you have your ten minute break, leave your work area. You must relax in this time and give your brain a rest. When working try to keep all distractions away from your work area which includes having the TV switched off.

4. Be prepared, organise your revision alongside your exams.

5. Cover several subject areas starting with the subjects you don’t so you avoid skipping them altogether.

6. Spend time on previous exam papers.

7. Before the exam, make sure you have everything you need and check what will be supplied by the School/College

8. Make sure you don’t have two exams at the same time!

9. Don’t cram the night before.

10. In the exam room, concentrate on what you need to do and take some sugary sweets to boost your energy.

11. Read all the instructions and questions carefully and allocate time according to the mark given. If one question carries 40 marks and the other 20 marks, allocate 40 minutes to the more important question and 20 minutes to the less important question.

12. If you run out of time, you can still be awarded points by writing notes on how you would have answered the question.

13. Once the exam is over, don’t panic there is nothing you can do now, move on to the next exam and keep positive!
