A self-confessed lazy and demotivated student has written to a Northampton College teacher to thank them for reigniting his passion for learning and helping him secure a dream' degree apprenticeship role with a leading food manufacturer.

Jack Humphries was, by his own admission, full of bad habits when he first signed up for a business course at Booth Lane, with no real direction and no idea what he wanted to do for a career.

But, under the expert guidance of tutor Karin Keir-Bucknall, Jack has now secured a position with Samworth Brothers, the UK's largest maker of Melton Mowbray certified pork pies.

Writing directly to Karin, Jack said: I needed a teacher who would bring a positive energy to my learning and my journey at college to reboot my motivation and get me going again. This was exactly what I was given when you were my teacher, you always brought a positive, upbeat bounce to my business lessons and allowed me to see a clear direction in where I was going in the future.

Your passion for teaching has been unmatched by any teacher I have had in my education. This allowed me to thrive as a student at the college. Thank you for your ability to bring my passion and motivation back up to where I have wanted it to be for so long.

As part of his degree apprenticeship at Samworth Brothers, Jack has the potential of an operations manager role after three years ' giving him an ideal first foray into the world of work.
