The Level 4 Professional Diploma in Creative Enterprise has been designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to develop their careers as creative professionals. This qualification will provide students with an opportunity to cultivate their employability by developing their creative enterprise skills and expanding their contact base, whilst developing their start-up projects and professional practice.

  • What will I study?

    The units you will study are likely to include:

    Unit 1 - The Creative Entrepreneur Students will demonstrate learning outcomes have been met in a variety of ways. A creative enterprise portfolio of evidence will be the main form of evidence generated.

    Unit 2 - The Creative Practitioner Research and a development portfolio of evidence will be the main form of evidence generated.

    Unit 3 - The Creative Enterprise Students will demonstrate that the learning outcomes have been met by submitting the following types of evidence:

    • Creative enterprise business plan
    • Pitch the creative enterprise business plan
    • Evaluation

    Students must successfully complete all three units in order to achieve the qualification. The qualification offers broad but in-depth knowledge and skills and has been designed to balance practical and creative skills with theoretical studies. Work placement and/or mentoring opportunities and industry-led projects are key elements of this qualification and will support students to gain a comprehensive understanding of employment opportunities in the sector.

    The course is student-focused, encouraging individualised and self-directed learning. No matter what your specialist discipline is, you will gain full mentoring to support you throughout the course.

  • Who is this course for?

    If you wish to start your own business, this qualification will support you to think creatively about how you set yourself up as an independent consultant or practitioner. Whilst the focus of the programme is creativity, this can apply to any business proposal or area where the ability to think creatively and be solution-focused is fundamental to the success and sustainability of the business.

    This qualification is suitable for students who don?t yet want to progress to university or apprenticeship straight after Level 3 but wish to set up their own business or work on an identified project. You can use this qualification to support yourself whilst starting up or explore your entrepreneurial skills by developing your management and business skills in order to respond creatively to business opportunities that arise.

  • How is the course assessed?

    You will be taught through seminars, group critiques, 1:1 tutorials and practical workshops. Formal assessments are set throughout the year to monitor student progress. Assessment is entirely coursework based. The course is assessed continuously through a range of assessments, live projects, your creative enterprise, workshops and meaningful outcomes.

    This qualification is assessed through:

    • Two internally assessed and moderated units, which are subject to quality assurance by UAL Awarding Body
    • One internally assessed unit which is marked by the centre and moderated by UAL Awarding Body
  • Your Study Programme

    The teaching spaces will be your studio first, classroom second, working with motivated and creative students trying to make an industry impact. Taught by Art, Design, Craft and Media professionals who have been successful in running their own businesses or working freelance in the creative industry.

    Youll be working alongside all types of creative people as the course is designed for those who have studied areas such as graphics, textiles, fashion, art, illustration, photography, 3D design and media, and wish to create products, establish themselves as a creative practitioner, run their own enterprise and market their own products.

    The qualification can be used as a starting point for students who have already identified a specific creative practice that they wish to work on or to enable them to explore the basis of entrepreneurial activity by developing essential business and management skills in order to identify and respond to business opportunities in the creative sector.

    The intention of the qualification is to give students the opportunity to develop their creative ideas and initiate their business venture. It is entirely feasible and desirable that delivery models will be designed to support the development of students who begin the course with a clear understanding of the area in which they want to work and the enterprise project they wish to define, develop and realise. Delivery will therefore meet the needs of each student and will occur in the context of the areas the students practise.

    The objectives of this qualification are to give students the opportunity to:

    • Develop and demonstrate enterprise and entrepreneurial skills necessary in the creative industries
    • Develop and define your artistic ambitions and creative ideas
    • Build up your professional practice and independently initiate your creative projects
    • Achieve a nationally recognised Level 4 qualification
  • General info

    The materials and associated costs with vary depending on your chosen specialist creative practice. It is generally recommended that students have a hard drive or access to a cloud storage platform to store digital content.

    Students enrolling on the course will be able to subscribe to the Adobe Creative Suite at a vastly reduced cost which will enable you to practice your skills at home. Whilst this is not a direct requirement of the course, being able to access the software packages at home and practice the skills you have learnt in class will have a huge impact on your grades.

  • Progression and Career Opportunities

    Once you have completed the UAL Level 4 Professional Diploma in Creative Enterprise, you will have the skills and understanding needed to progress directly into employment or set up your own creative company. You could also progress to an HNC/HND course at Northampton College or into Higher Education with the qualification supporting you to develop a portfolio of work.

  • Entry Requirements for new students

    Level 3 Art & GCSE grade 4 in English and maths & a portfolio showing your skills & particular interest. This can include GCSE. A Level or BTEC artwork & personal work. The level of course you enrol on will be based on the quality of your artwork.
