Summary of course

The qualification is for students wanting to pursue a career as a Construction Professional in Construction in the Built Environment or extend their education through Higher National Certificate, a Higher Apprenticeship or University. This qualification provides the knowledge, understanding and skills that will allow students to progress further in their education, directly to employment or an Apprenticeship as a Constructional professional.

Specialist units: Management of a Construction Project Provision of Primary Services in Construction Construction in Civil Engineering

The mandatory units will cover Mathematical, Design and Scientific principles, as applied in a construction context. They introduce a range of technologies and their application in the industry. The health and safety unit will introduce students to their personal responsibilities for health, safety and welfare, the industry and legislative requirements for health and safety, and the application of organisational processes and risk management to ensure compliance

Working toward an Extended Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment over a two year period you will be studying various units including: Construction Principles, Construction Technology, Tendering and Estimating, Construction Technology Graphical Detailing in Construction, Building Surveying in Construction, Measurement Techniques in Construction, Further Mathematics for Construction, Projects in Construction and Construction in Civil Engineering.

How is the course assessed?

Assessment is via a mixture of BTEC externally set and marked exams, BTEC externally set tasks set and marked and completed under supervised conditions, and a number of internally graded exams/assessments.

Your Study Programme

We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can. All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you don’t have a grade C (4) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal. Work experience will be part of your study programme and complement your college study and prepare you for employment. You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career. Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.

Who is this course for?

The course is ideal if you have an interest in the Construction Management and wish to gain a Level 3 qualification in Construction and the Built Environment.

Entry Requirements for new students

Four GCSEs at grade A*-C (9-4) including Maths, English should be at least Grade 3 (D)
