Summary of course
This Level 2 course will teach you essential skills to prepare you for further training within the construction environment, specialising is plastering and the installation of decorative mouldings. You will learn about Health and Safety and the units listed below will help you to begin, or continue, your journey towards employment within the construction industry or further study to enhance your employability.
What will I study?
The units you will study are likely to include: Core units:
- Health, safety and welfare in construction
- Principles of building construction, information and communication
- Apply plastering materials to interiors
- Fix dry lining and plasterboards to interiors
- Laying sand and cement screeds
- Applying plastering materials to external backgrounds
- Produce reverse moulds for fibrous work
- Casting and fixing fibrous plasterwork All units are subject to change and may be withdrawn.

Your Study Programme
If you are aged 16-18, you will join a Study Programme. We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can. All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you dont have a grade C (4) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal. Work experience will be part of your study programme and complement your college study and prepare you for employment. You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career. Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.

This course is ideal if you have an interest in plastering and mouldings and wish to gain a Level 2 qualification in Plastering and Decorative Moulding

Employment as a Plasterer, Flooring Specialist or External Coverings Self employment Apprenticeship within the construction industry.
Entry Requirements for new students
Entry requirements for new students - Four GCSE passes at Grade 3 [D] or above. All applicants will be invited for interview. Equivalent qualifications will be considered.
You must bring your interview letter to your appointment and arrive 15 minutes before your interview is due to take place. Be prepared to talk about what interests you about learning about and working within the construction industry, plastering, external finishes and decorative mouldings.
General Info (materials required for the course)
You will need to have personal protective equipment such as eye protection, overalls and safety boots. We will provide you with a list before you join the course. You may be able to apply to the College Bursary Fund for help with paying for these items.
