Summary of course
In this course you will improve your literacy skills in English. This course will help intermediate level students improve their reading skills by introducing them to different text types for a variety of purposes. You will work on increasing your vocabulary and improving your ability to read and understand a variety of more complex texts that you see in everyday life or reading that you chose to do for pleasure or for your work. In addition, you will start to write your own texts using the vocabulary and language learnt in the lessons.
You will study English vocabulary and language at Level 1 (intermediate) level. The lessons will concentrate on increasing vocabulary, recognising text features and developing language structures to enable access to more complex texts. You will learn about the language used in different types of printed and online text and you will start to use the language in your own writing and speaking.
How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed via formal examination at the end of the course.
Who is this course for?
This course is aimed at people whose first language is not English and who have an intermediate level of English skills in reading.
Entry Requirements for new students
All new students must attend an ESOL Initial Assessment and be assessed as working towards Level 1.
You must attend an ESOL Initial Assessment which could take up to ninety minutes.
General Info (materials required for the course)
There are no specific materials needed for the course but please bring pens, paper and a folder to organise your work to every lesson. You might find an English monolingual or a bi-lingual dictionary useful.
