Summary of course
This is a lively and fun course designed to help develop skills in the fields of Public Services.
You will learn practical skills that are needed to work in a public services environment and gain a realistic idea about career possibilities in Public Services.
You will be offered a combination of practical and theory-based assignments covering a range of topics.
The method of learning is through a mixture of practical and theory sessions designed to support and build your confidence in your abilities and talents.

- Personal Skills in Public Services
- Expedition Skills
- Map Reading
- Improving Health and Fitness
- Practical Team Work
- Public Services Incidents
All units are subject to change and may be withdrawn.
How is the course assessed?
This course is assessed through a combination of externally set written assignments and practical tasks.
Your Study Programme
If you are aged 16-18, you will join a Study Programme. We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can. All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you don't have a grade 4 (C) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal (subject to specific entry requirements for particular courses). Work experience will be part of your study programme and complement your college study and prepare you for employment. You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career. Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.
Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for you if you have an interest in public services and would like to gain a Level 1 qualification in public services.
Progression and Career Opportunities
If you are successful achieving the course (including Functional Skills), you may progress to Level 2 Public Services.
Entry Requirements for new students
Four GCSEs at Grade 2 [E] or above or completion of Foundation studies including FS English and Maths
You must bring your interview letter to your appointment and arrive 15 minutes before your interview is due to take place.

General Info (materials required for the course)
You will need to purchase a uniform and there will be trips you need to attend that are essential to the completion of your course, including:
Boots and combat trousers, polo shirt and long sleeve shirt purchased from School Trends.
The residential trip due to take place as part of your induction will be approximately £70 and you must bring this fee to your enrolment day.
You must wear none marking sole shoes for activities in the Sports Hall.
