Alexandra, 20, from Duston had previously started courses in catering and public services before she decided she definitely wanted to focus on childcare.
She said: “I loved the thought of working with children but I didn’t really know much about childcare so I started on a foundation course at Northampton College then progressed on to the ESF funded Introduction to Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Settings course.
“I knew that would enable me to then progress onto a Level 2 Apprenticeship programme which is what I always wanted. The course has been great and really given me an understanding of childcare, safeguarding, health and safety requirements and lots more. It was a real eye-opener to what working with children really entails. I met lots of new people and loved every bit about the course.
“Things have got really exciting since I finished the course because I've started looking for an Apprenticeship. I'm in the process of applying for a nursery assistant job at a local nursery in Northampton and after that I want to move onto the Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship.
“My long-term plans are to get a full-time job as a support worker and I know I have the best grounding to achieve that.”
