An Assistant Accountant is an integral part of the team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within a business. The broad purpose of the occupation is to support internal and external customers in the administration of their financial and accounting activities. They may work as an assistant accountant in a practice or alternatively within the finance function of an organisation. An assistant accountant helps in the operation of day-to-day financial activities, these may include data entry to month-end management accounts and year-end financial statements, in addition the assistant accountant may find themselves involved in regulatory financial requirements. These may include the completion of VAT returns or assisting in the preparation of tax computations. In their daily work an employer in this occupation interacts with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely accounts services. Assistant can work in almost any sector. Potential employers include corporate businesses, sole traders, partnerships, Public sector, not-for-profit organisations and educational institutions.

How is the course assessed?
- Day release once a week for a full year
- Develop a portfolio of evidence based on the Duties outlined in the Standards.
To complete your apprenticeship, you will have to pass an end point assessment ? which consists of a Professional Discussion and Multiple Choice Test.

Progression and Career Opportunities
After successful completion of this Apprenticeship, you could progress you career within the Accounts industry and go on to complete further AAT qualifications or a Level 4 Apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements for new students
Applicants will typically hold:
- Level 2
- Four GCSEs at grade C (4) or above including Maths and English
- AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting or equivalent
*All applicants will be invited for interview with an apprenticeship advisor and the employer
- Equivalent qualifications will be considered.
- In exceptional circumstances, applications which do not meet the formal entry criteria may be considered on an individual basis.
