This course will offer you the opportunity to develop the conceptual, technical and critical skills required to succeed in the creative industries. You will become an innovative and experimental artist/maker and critical thinker. You will be encouraged to explore innovative ways of using a range of media and processes, including print-making, sculpture, photography and time-based media.

What will I study?
- Build an individualised portfolio of wide ranging practical work
- Explore a variety of media and develop an ability to express observations and ideas in visual form
- Participate in trips to galleries and work with professional artists
- Develop analytical skills and knowledge of critical and contemporary issues in Art and Design.
The units you will study are likely to include:
Fine art is sub-divided into the following four disciplines:
- Painting and drawing
- Printmaking
- Sculpture
- Lens-based image making.
Students will be required to work in one or more of the disciplines to communicate their ideas. By working across disciplines, they will extend their understanding of the scope of fine art; by focusing on one discipline, they will gain a deeper understanding of specific processes within fine art.

Higher Education
Employment opportunities are varied from working directly with the arts such as an advertising art director, art therapist and concept artist to working in the community as an arts worker. The commercial sector has jobs such as art gallery manager, illustrator and print maker.

Entry Requirements for new students
The required point score to join our A Level programme is 4.25. This must include a minimum of 5 grade 5s or above, including a grade 5 or above in English Language and maths and a grade 5 in Art and Design or a portfolio. An average point score will be calculated from your GCSE grades.
A BTEC qualification at Merit grade, or above, in a related subject may also be considered in exceptional circumstances.
All applicants will be invited for interview.
