This course covers a wide range of make-up, nail, hair and media techniques. The method of learning is by a mixture of practical and theory sessions. Your course may include one late evening a week.

  • Who is this course for?

    This course is ideal for you if you have an interest in becoming a makeup artist or nail technician and wish to gain a Level 2 qualification.

  • How is the course assessed?

    Practical work will be assessed by some formative assessments and then a final end of course assessments covering a range of treatments which will be graded.

    Theory work is assessed using written and online external tests and some assignment work. You will also be required to prepare a portfolio of evidence.

  • Your Study Programme

    If you are aged 16-18, you will join a Study Programme.

    We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can. All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you don't have a grade 4 (C) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal (subject to specific entry requirements for particular courses)

    Work experience will be part of your study programme and complement your college study and prepare you for employment. You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career. Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.

    • The diverse range of techniques and trends in make-up, nails, hair styling and special effects
    • How to research, develop and showcase designs

  • General info

    The following items will need to be purchased prior to enrolling in September:

    • Uniform - Approximately £45.00
    • Kit - Approximately £400

    To enhance this course we arrange trips to trade shows and offer extra optional courses which will incur additional costs and would ask you to allow approximately £50.00 to cover these. Please ask your interviewer for more details.

  • Progression and Career Opportunities

    Progression is onto the Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Media Make-up Artistry course.

  • Entry Requirements for new students

    Four GCSEs at Grade 3.

    Relevant experience may be considered as Adult students must have suitable work/life experience.

    We recommend that you attend one of our exciting open events so that you can look around the department, the college and meet the tutors. You are welcome to do this before or after you apply.
