Code is the language of the modern world. Whether it's the app that brings emails to a mobile or the car that knows how many miles to go until refuelling. Any smart device needs code instructions to tell it how to operate and communicate with the outside world.
This course focuses on the job role of a software practitioner across a range of sectors including website creation, mobile applications and games creation. You will explore programming languages and the contexts in which these may be used.

Who is this course for?
This course is ideal if you have an interest in developing skills in software development and programming and wish to gain a Level 2 qualfication in IT.

How is the course assessed?
- Units are internally assessed
- Units are externally moderated through assignments
- All units are assessed with course work which is graded, and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.

Your Study Programme
If you are aged 16-18, you will join a Study Programme. We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can. All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you don't have a grade 4 (C) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal (subject to specific entry requirements for particular courses). Work experience will be part of your study programme and complement your college study and prepare you for employment. You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career. Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.

Knowledge
You will develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of:
- The concepts and fundamentals of data, including searching, storing, integrating and organising data
- The main features and benefits of digital information systems and how these are used to maintain information and to support organisations and best working practices
- The principles of organisational information security governance and the components of an organisation's cyber security technical infrastructure including hardware, operating systems, networks, software and cloud.

General info
There will be a trip arranged during your course and we recommend that all students participate. The cost of the trip is approximately £35 and this cost is payable at enrolment in September.

After successful completion of this course at Pass Grade you may want to consider progressing onto 1 of the following courses offer at Northampton College:

To progress onto either of the courses above you need to achieve GCSE Mathematics at Grade 4 (C) and English GCSE at Grade 3 (D).
