This Level 2 course will teach you essential skills to prepare you for further training within the construction environment, specialising in brickwork and hard landscaping. You will learn about Health and Safety and the units listed below will help you to begin, or continue, your journey towards employment within the construction industry or further study to enhance your employability.

  • What will I study?

    The units you will study are likely to include: Core units:

    • Principles of building construction, information and communication
    • Producing thin joint masonry and masonry cladding
    • Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers
    • Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures
    • Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures
    • Health, safety and welfare in construction All units are subject to change and may be withdrawn.
  • Who is this course for?

    This course is ideal if you have an interest in bricklaying and hard landscaping and wish to gain a Level 2 qualification in Brickwork and Hard Landscaping.

  • Your Study Programme

    If you are aged 16-18, you will join a Study Programme. We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can. All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you dont have a grade C (4) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal. Work experience will be part of your study programme and complement your college study and prepare you for employment. You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career. Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.

    • How to communicate in a clear, articulate and appropriate manner.

    • Interpret drawings and specifications

    • Ensure thermal qualities, airtightness and ventilation are maintained

    • Repair and renew masonry structures.

  • General info

    You will need to have personal protective equipment such as overalls and safety boots. We will provide you with a list before you join the course. You may be able to apply to the College Bursary Fund for help with paying for these items.

  • Progression and Career Opportunities

    Further study in the construction subject area such as Level 3 in Bricklaying or Apprenticeships within the construction industry.

  • Entry Requirements for new students

    Four GCSE passes at Grade 3 or above including English and maths.
