This Level 2 course will teach you essential skills to prepare you for further training within the construction environment, specialising in brickwork and hard landscaping. You will gain an understanding of the skills and knowledge that are important when you are working as a Bricklayer or progressing to further learning and training in this area.
The course is designed so that you learn the underlying principles and practical skills involved, as well as getting an overview of the principles of construction, building technology and terminology used. You will benefit for working with a number of industry experts and have involvement with various community projects.

Who is this course for?
This course is ideal if you have an interest in bricklaying and hard landscaping and wish to develop skills and knowledge that will support progression in to industry

How is the course assessed?
There will be a number of online exams and a practical assignment that is externally set and internally marked with external verification.
The assignment is designed to assess the candidate?s depth and breadth of knowledge, skills and understanding from across content in the qualification, at the end of their period of learning. It will be completed under supervised conditions.
Unit 101, health and safety in a construction environment, is an imported unit that covers the health and safety knowledge that is required to gain a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) ?Green Card? for access to construction sites in the UK

Your Study Programme
If you are aged 16-18, you will join a Study Programme this could be a vocational or technical qualification. We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can.
Work experience will be part of your study programme and complement your college study and prepare you for employment. You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career.
If you have chosen to study for a T Level qualification, this will involve college-based theory and practice lessons along with relevant work placement to enable you to gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours that employers are looking for.
Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.
All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you don't have a grade 4 (C) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal (subject to specific entry requirements for particular courses).

You may be required to go on trips or purchase a kit and uniform to undertake this course. Information about individual items and their associated costs will be sent to you in June/July before you enrol.

Entry Requirements for new students
4 GCSEs at Grade 3 including English and Maths and successful completion of the Level 1 Bricklaying course at Northampton College.
