Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving you the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and an offer of an interview with an employer upon completion.
Our Skills Bootcamp in Construction: Green Skills and Retrofit is designed to help you develop the practical skills needed to support Net Zero targets in the construction industry.
Delivered face-to-face, this structured 12-day programme reflects current employer expectations for green and retrofit roles. You'll gain hands-on experience in key areas such as energy efficiency, low-carbon technologies and modern installation techniques.
Throughout the course, you'll build confidence, develop job-ready skills and gain an understanding of how green technologies are shaping the future of construction.
The programme is delivered part-time over eight weeks, with both daytime (9am - 4pm) and evening learning (6pm - 9pm), with timings varying across weekdays.

What will I study?
Foundations and energy efficiency You'll begin with induction and initial assessment, followed by training in water regulations and energy efficiency. You'll explore key principles, industry standards and safe use of tools and equipment. You'll also be introduced to unvented hot water systems, including basic installation, maintenance and safety.
Low-carbon systems and heat pumps You'll develop practical skills in air source heat pumps (ASHP), including installation, maintenance and fault finding. You'll also study low temperature hot water design to improve system efficiency. Workshop sessions will help you build accuracy and confidence using tools and equipment. You may also be introduced to manufacturer-led training, supporting progression towards approved installer status.
Electrical systems and EV charging You'll focus on EV car charger installation, including working safely with mains voltage systems. You'll build knowledge of regulations, health and safety and installation techniques in a specialist training environment, while continuing to develop practical skills through hands-on activities.
Across the course, you'll build a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your skills and support your progression into employment.

If you're aged 19 or over and have the right to study in England, you're likely to be eligible for this Skills Bootcamp.
You should have an interest in construction and be ready to take an active role in your learning throughout the programme.

How is the course assessed?
Assessment is mainly practical and based on your ability to demonstrate the skills you develop. Your work will be captured in a portfolio of evidence, which you can use to showcase your progress to employers.
