Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving you the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and an offer of an interview with an employer upon completion.
Our Skills Bootcamp in Welding for Construction is designed to help you gain the practical skills needed to start a career in the construction and engineering sector.
This programme offers a structured, hands-on route into employment, delivered entirely face-to-face. The 12-day format is designed to match employer expectations for entry-level skilled roles.
You?ll develop core welding techniques using industry-standard equipment, alongside essential health and safety knowledge and employability skills. The course is focused on what employers are looking for, helping you become confident and job-ready in a short period of time.
This programme runs over three weeks at our Booth Lane campus in Northampton, with daytime sessions from 9am to 4.30pm, Monday to Thursday.

What will I study?
Days 1 - 4 (9am ? 4.30pm) ? Core skills and preparation You?ll complete induction and initial assessment, before developing core MIG welding knowledge and skills. You?ll cover health and safety, PPE, hazard identification and site conduct, alongside employability skills such as CV writing and interview preparation.
Days 5 - 8 (9am ? 4.30pm) ? Skills development and quality You?ll build your welding techniques by producing a range of welds in different positions. You?ll learn how to check alignment, assess weld quality and ensure consistent results. You?ll also prepare materials and develop your ability to identify common welding defects.
Days 9 - 12 (9am ? 4.30pm) ? Advanced techniques and progression You?ll further develop your welding skills, producing more complex welds and refining your technique. You?ll continue to focus on safety, quality and consistency, while completing your portfolio of evidence. You?ll also take part in employability sessions, preparing you for interviews and progression into work.

Who is this course for?
If you're aged 19 or over and have the right to study in England, you?re likely to be eligible for this Skills Bootcamp.
You should have an interest in construction or engineering and be ready to take an active role in your learning throughout the programme.
If you?re motivated to develop practical skills and begin a career in welding, this course could be the right fit for you.

How is the course assessed?
Assessment combines practical and knowledge-based methods. You?ll demonstrate your welding skills through workshop activities and take part in professional discussions around health and safety and working practices. Your progress will be recorded in a portfolio of evidence.

All PPE, tools and equipment will be provided. Please bring a pen, pencil and notebook on your first day.

Progression and Career Opportunities
There is strong and ongoing demand for skilled welders across the construction and engineering sectors.
On completion, you could progress into entry-level roles or continue your training through further study or apprenticeships, such as the Level 2 Welder or Level 3 Metal Fabricator standards.
You?ll achieve a recognised Level 2 Award in Welding Skills and be offered an interview with an employer, giving you a clear route into employment.
