Once considered 'trucks and sheds' and a low-skilled industry, logistics and supply chain management today is emerging as a highly desirable sector for employment providing an exciting high-tech career. This is due to the deployment of cutting-edge technologies in many of the key areas.

This course gives young people a broad understanding of supply chain and its related sectors in logistics. The employer-endorsed content is up-to-date and relevant, reflecting the blend of technical, interpersonal and project skills needed by someone who is thinking about a career in this sector.

  • What will I study?

    Units to make up the completion of qualification.

    Mandatory Units:

    • Introduction to modes of transportation in the logistics operations
    • Sustainability in logistics and supply chain operations
    • Warehouse operations within supply chain logistics

    • Safety and wellbeing in a digital working environment
    • Effective teamwork and leadership skills
    • Introduction to exporting within supply chain logistics
    • Introduction to importing within supply chain logistics
    • Technology and automation in supply chain logistics
    • Understand key terms for supply chain logistics
    • Understand the provision of customer service within a logistics environment

  • Who is this course for?

    This course is ideal if you have not studied logistics before and would like to develop the skills required for a career in the industry.

  • How is the course assessed?

    Units are internally and externally assessed through coursework and moderated. The coursework is graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.

    Assignments will be presented in a variety of formats including presentation, role plays and written work.

  • Your Study Programme

    If you are aged 16-18, you will join a Study Programme. We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can. All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you don't have a grade 4 (C) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal (subject to specific entry requirements for particular courses). Work experience will be part of your study programme and complement your college study and prepare you for employment. You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career. Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.

    You will develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of:

    • Managing stakeholders and their differing relationships to an organisation

    • Laws and regulations that apply to their role including data protection, health & safety and compliance

    • The applicability of business principles such as managing change, business finances and project management.

    You will have the ability to:

    • Use multiple IT packages and systems relevant to the organisation

    • Build and maintain positive relationships within your own team and across the organisation

    • Demonstrate good communication skills, whether face-to-face, on the telephone, in writing or on digital platforms.

    It is expected that students come prepared for all sessions ? basic stationery is a must.

  • Progression and Career Opportunities

    Progression from Level 2 logistics courses to Level 3 courses requires students to fully complete all their Level 2 study programme within year including English and maths and work experience where required.

    Learners could progress into a variety of opportunities including:

    Working roles such as:

    • Transport Planner
    • Supply Chain Manager
    • Port Worker

    Apprenticeships ? for example International Trade and Logistic or International Trade and/or Logistics Trainee Manager

    Further studies ? Level 3 in International Supply Logistics or similar courses.

  • Entry Requirements for new students

    Four GCSEs at Grade 3 or above including English and maths or a related Level 1 qualification plus English and maths at GCSE grade 1-3

    We recommend that you attend one of our exciting open events so that you can look around the department, the college and meet the tutors. You are welcome to do this before or after you apply. These events have proved very successful in ensuring students and their families see the best of what the college has to offer such as our inspirational teaching areas, teachers, library facilities and places to eat.

    Once you have applied our experienced Enrolment team will consider your application carefully and will let you know, by email, if the College would like to make you a conditional offer based on you meeting the specified entry requirements. If your predicted grades or career aims suggest that an alternative subject area or course level would be more appropriate for you at this stage, we will contact you either by telephone, email or text. If you have told us that you have some additional support needs we will contact you to find out more so that we can help you.
