This course is designed to increase the knowledge and practical abilities of students wishing to entre into the vehicle refinishing industry.   • What will I study?

    The learning programme involves learners studying both the theory and practical aspects, including:

    • preparing metal and pre-painted surfaces
    • preparing and applying fillers and foundation materials to vehicles
    • repairing minor paint defects.

    Learners will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage. You will also study for qualifications in Maths & English to Grade 4

  • Who is this course for?

    This engaging and motivating course is designed primarily for 16?19 year-olds who have a strong interest in learning about Vehicle Refinishing and techniques used in the automotive sector.

  • Your Study Programme

    If you are aged 16-18, you will join a Study Programme. We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can. All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you don't have a grade 4 (C) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal (subject to specific entry requirements for particular courses). Work experience will be part of your study programme and complement your college study and prepare you for employment. You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career. Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.

    You will develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of:

    • The structure of the industry and how the business works from an operational perspective

    • The procedures for the maintenance of tools and the workshop

    • The implications and legal requirements of fitting accessories and carrying out vehicle modifications.

    You will have the ability to:

    • Interpret diagnostic information and use electrical wiring diagrams to determine service serviceability

    • Adhere to business processes and complete documentation following workplace procedures

    • Complete a range of services and inspect and prepare a vehicle to the required quality standard for handover to the customer.

  • General info

    You will be provided with a preferred Kit List that will assist you during your course. This kit will always belong to you is fully transferable to take with you in to employment.

  • Progression and Career Opportunities

    After successful completion of this course you could apply for the Level 3 in Vehicle Accident Repair (paint principles) or gain employment and continue further study via block release courses on an Apprenticeship programme.

  • Entry Requirements for new students

    Four GCSEs at Grade 3 or IMI Level 1 Diploma in Automotive Refinishing plus GCSE English and maths at Grade 1-3.

These events have proved very successful in ensuring students and their families see the best of what the college has to offer such as our inspirational teaching areas, teachers, library facilities and places to eat.
