This Level 3 technical qualification is designed to give you a strong foundation in legal knowledge and the professional skills you?ll need to start your journey in the legal world. You?ll study topics like legal principles, regulation, ethics, client care, and how the legal system works in practice.

  • What will I study?

    • Professionalism and ethics/equality, diversity, and inclusion
    • Security and risk
    • Professional services
    • Fundamentals of law
    • Fundamentals of financial accounting

    • Data driven innovation/analytics and design thinking
    • Research skills
    • Project/change management and administration

    Specialist units:

    • Assisting with inception, progression and completion of legal services in crime, criminal justice and social welfare
    • Carrying out legal and factual research
    • Draft legal documents and standard legal communications

  • Who is this course for?

    This course is ideal if you have an interest in law and wish to gain a Level 3 qualification in legal services.

  • Your Study Programme

    If you are aged 16-18, you will join a Study Programme this could be a vocational or technical qualification. We will make sure you are working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest level of qualification you can.

    Work experience will be part of your study programme and complement your college study and prepare you for employment. You will also get involved in activities to help you develop life skills and to build your confidence so you can make progress in your career.

    If you have chosen to study for a T Level qualification, this will involve college-based theory and practice lessons along with relevant work placement to enable you to gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours that employers are looking for.

    Weekly timetables will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one to one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs.

    All students will continue to improve their maths and English and if you don't have a grade 4 (C) at GCSE, we will work with you towards achieving that goal (subject to specific entry requirements for particular courses).

    • The legal system and frameworks in England and Wales
    • Practical procedures involved in legal services such as case preparation
    • The ethical standards and professional conduct rules that govern legal professionals

    • Undertake legal research and analysis
    • Develop strong interpersonal and communication skills to gather information from clients and maintain professional relationships
    • Enhance your ability to analyse legal problems and propose appropriate solutions in line with legal principles and client needs

    • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability by taking ownership of tasks, meeting deadlines and understanding the impact of your work on clients

  • General info

    You may be required to go on trips or purchase a kit and uniform to undertake this course. Information about individual items and their associated costs will be sent to you in June/July before you enrol.

    Some students may be eligible for support from the Student Bursary Scheme with the costs of coming to college. Applications are available on the college website under Student Support.   • Progression and Career Opportunities

    After successful completion of this course, you could progress directly into employment as a paralegal, legal secretary or court usher. You could also progress into higher level apprenticeships or into higher education, for example into a degree in Law.

  • Entry Requirements for new students

    Five GCSEs at grade 9-4. English and maths must both be at a grade 5 or above.

    • In exceptional circumstances, applications which do not meet the formal entry criteria may be considered on an individual basis
    • For certain courses, more specific entry criteria may apply
    • Equivalent qualifications will be considered
