This introductory qualification is the first step towards becoming a qualified teacher or trainer in the Learning and Skills Sector. It is recognised and valued nationally by employers and so if you want to go into teaching or training, it is an excellent qualification to hold.

The course is delivered through practical activities, discussions, presentations and reflective practice, all applied to practical teaching or training. The Award replaced the established 'PTLLS' qualification.

  • Entry Requirements for new students

You must show the ability to work at Level 3 in the assignments and this will be assessed during the advice and guidance session.

You do not have to be teaching or training during the course but should be aware that if you wish to develop a teaching or training career, you are likely to need an appropriate qualification at Level 3 or above and/or experience in the subject you wish to deliver, for any future teaching or training positions. There may also be a requirement for Level 2 maths and English qualifications for the next qualification.

You will be required to attend a short advice and guidance session so that we can assess the aim of your application and make sure the course is right for you. You may be given a short assessment so that we can ensure that you will be able to cope with the academic level of study required.
