Our team of Autism Support Specialists are available to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and identify any barriers to achievement.

We have a team of Autism Support Specialists who are available to support students with ASD during their time at college. They are based in Additional Learning Support in the Library and work with students and staff to identify and remove any barriers to achievement.

What does support for students with ASD look like?

If students with ASD think they will benefit from support whilst studying at college, we ask them to note this on their course application. We will then arrange for one of the ASD Support tutors to talk to the young person and their parent/carer to discuss what support is needed. This meeting can happen face-to-face or on Microsoft Teams.

Once we know what level of support is needed, we will share this with teaching staff so they are aware before the young person starts their course.

We will offer the young person the opportunity to take part in a welcome tour of the college sites at Booth Lane, Lower Mounts and Daventry so they can start to become familiar with the setting and see where their classes are and see the facilities on offer.

Once teaching begins, the level of support in place is determined by the young persons’ needs and can range from having a one to one teaching assistant in lessons to weekly support tutorials. We will also ensure that any support needed for exams is in place; this could be having extra time, access to a reader or sitting exams in a separate room.
